WordPress Widgets plugin installed!

Automattic Logo

“Widgets” is just a silly buzzword we’ve chosen for this sidebar-chopping plug-in we have developed. They could have been called Gadgets or Gizmos or Wizbangs or Whatevers. On the surface, they’re just things you can use to personalize your WordPress site without knowing HTML.

After activated in Plugins menu you should now see a “Sidebar Widgets” item in the Presentation menu. This gives you a page with two columns: a palette and a sidebar. The palette has list of all widgets and the other column presents sidebar. You can drag’n drop the widgets between the columns to make the exact combination that you want.

Some widgets will have a little icon on the right side of the widget item. Click that icon to open widget’s settings. Click the X or the area outside the settings box to return to the widget screen. Your settings are not saved until you click “Save changes” on the main screen.

Two of the included widgets, Text and RSS, can be replicated several times. Below the palette column you will find forms to change the number of RSS and Text widgets available. Reducing the number will only cause the extra widgets to be removed from the visual interface; the contents of the widgets is preserved.

Installed widgets:

  • Flickr Widget - It will display your flickr photos in your blog’s sidebar. Goto your wordpress admin page and click on ‘Presentation’ then ‘Sidebar Widgets’. Drag the widget called “Flickr Badge” to your sidebar. Click the square icon next to the widget to open the config screen. More information.
